Working with Crisis, I noticed that the charity was much favoured by eminent journalists who trusted their track record in reporting homelessness, yet there were no formal ties to this powerful group of influencers. So, with Alastair Stewart and Jeremy Paxman, I created News 50, a collection of 14 high profile journalists and media heads who advised Crisis on press work during their 50th anniversary.
Jon Snow, Kirsty Wark, Dame Joan Bakewell and Sarah Sands were among it’s first members and when the group met for the last time a year later, Crisis had enjoyed features on the Today programme and in the Evening Standard, a major Google fundraising initiative and an 8 minute live slot on Channel 4 News.
